By A Correspondent

GANGTOK, July 15 - A case will be registered against a GREF official for violating the COVID-19 protocol. East DC Raj Yadav has directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rongli to register a case against the OC of 130 RCC GREF, Rongli, under Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, Section 188 of the IPC, and other relevant provisions of the law.

In a letter to the SDM, the DC said that the response to the show-cause notice issued to the OC GREF on July 11 has been found unsatisfactory.

On the basis of the preliminary enquiry conducted by the East DC, reports submitted by the Rongli SDM and the Regu BDO, it has been established that the OC, GREF, has violated the directions regarding accommodation of its personnel and screening of returnees. With many cases among GREF workers and its transmission among some people in the local community, the subdivisions of Rongli and Pakyong in East Sikkim have already been declared as containment zones.
