Sikkim gets four strategic bridges

GANGTOK, Oct 13 - Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated 44 major bridges and also laid the foundation stone of the Nechiphu tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh. He opened four bridges in Sikkim namely, the Khumdum Khola bridge, the Ringchu Khola bridge, the B5 bridge and the Siyam Khola bridge.

Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, while attending the online inauguration function, said, �These will solve the issue of connectivity for local people and open avenues for tourism-related activities and most importantly, assist our armed forces in transporting essential materials and pieces of equipment for security purposes.�

The Minister of Roads and Bridges and officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), GREF and the Chief Minister�s Office joined the function via live video from the Samman Bhawan here.

The Chief Minister also praised the BRO for �outstanding work� in the State even during difficult conditions.

The Union Defence Minister said that he was honoured to be present in the e-inauguration event.

In Sikkim, the bridges will ease connectivity in the border region which has challenging topographical conditions.
