By A correspondent

GANGTOK, March 19 - In view of the coronavirus scare across the world, all government and private universities, colleges, schools, teacher education institutes, training institutes, coaching centres and other educational institutions in Sikkim will remain closed till April 15 or till further notice.

Teaching faculty members and vocational staff members need not go to their workplaces. However, they must remain in station and refrain from non-essential travel as a precautionary measure. They should be readily available at any time for any emergency issue, official sources stated.

The institution heads will, in the event of board examinations, make a duty schedule for invigilation and other examination-related works, as the board examinations will continue as per schedule. All non-teaching staff and Group D employees will report for duty on a regular basis for the purpose of cleanliness, safety and security matters.

Outstation students have been advised not to leave the State as far as possible. Any type of activity which encompasses gathering namely, reading in libraries, sports, meetings, training, etc., will have to be strictly avoided.

Visit to offices or workplaces by members of the public should be minimised and use of the single-window system should be encouraged.

Use of biometric devices at the workplace for the record of daily attendance has been suspended till further orders. All persons will record their attendance on a manual register which will be maintained by the respective sectional heads.

Proper cleaning and frequent sanitisation of the workplace, particularly of frequently touched surfaces, must be done, government authorities stated.
