Sikkim CM visits landslide-hit area

GANGTOK, Aug 28 - Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today visited the landslide-hit area of Sagbari near Legship in West district.

Interacting with the affected families, the Chief Minister stated that he has given necessary instructions to the District Collector for their resettlement in a safer location. He also called for constitution of a committee to shift villagers and take further action. Tamang gave a patient hearing to the villagers who aired their grievances and assured them of providing a government job to a member of every affected family on an ad hoc basis.

The Chief Minister was also accompanied by minister Lok Nath Sharma, who is the MLA of Gyalshing Bermiok constituency, and other dignitaries.

As many as 17 dwelling houses are facing an erosion threat following the swelling of the Rangit river on August 5.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also inaugurated bakery units at the ITI, Gyalshing. Bakery and Japanese classes have been newly introduced in the ITI. The bakery units have been set up by the District Collectorate of West district with NEC funds.
