Sikkim CM attends Losoong-Namsoong festival

GANGTOK, Dec 17 - Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang attended the Losoong-Namsoong festival, organised by the Kewzing Losoong-Namsoong Celebration Committee, on the Kewzing playground in South Sikkim on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister greeted the people and praised the organising committee for holding the festival and bringing together various communities. The festivals celebrated in Sikkim should stand for community inclusiveness, he added.

Tamang also highlighted the importance of the harvest festival. �May this Losoong-Namsoong festival bring good luck to Sikkim and the world and help us to conquer the pandemic,� he said. On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the Kewzing Primary Health Sub Centre would be upgraded into a primary health centre. The existing Dak Bungalow will be given a facelift, he added. Tamang said that the State Government is committed to improving the health infrastructure. It has decided to provide dialysis facilities in all districts of the State, he added. The facilities will also be extended to the subdivisional level.

The Sikkim Government has undertaken various steps to check the spread of COVID-19, the Chief Minister said.

He also stressed the need of tapping the immense tourism potential of the Barfung constituency. Road construction projects will be launched to connect various monasteries and the surrounding markets, Tamang said.

The Kewzing Losoong-Namsoong Celebration Committee also felicitated the Chief Minister on the occasion.

The festival was marked by cultural shows, rural sports and other colourful activities.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Kewzing Bazaar branch of the State Bank of Sikkim in the presence of the Chairman of the State Bank of Sikkim, DB Gurung, and Barfung MLA Barfung TT Bhutia.

Tamang said that the bank branch would be of great convenience to the local residents. Public support will further strengthen the bank which has originated in Sikkim itself, he added.
