Sikkim calls off border trade, Mansarovar Yatra

GANGTOK, April 23 - The Sikkim Government today said that the annual Sino-Indian border trade and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra have been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Border trade through the Nathu La Pass was scheduled to begin in May, while the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to the Tibetan Autonomous Region via Nathu La was slated to commence in June.

State Commerce and Industry Minister BS Panth said the Sino-Indian trade route has been closed for an indefinite period in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. He said the decision would be communicated to the Union Government for necessary action.
