Sikkim, Assam bag Panchayati Raj awards

NEW DELHI, April 23 - Around 3,000 Panchayat representatives from States will participate in Panchayati Raj Sammelan to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jharkhand on Sunday, which will be beamed live to all the Gram Sabhas across the country.

Modi will address the Panchayati Raj Sammelan on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24 in Jamshedpur during which he will also give away awards to Sikkim and some other States, which have have devolved maximum powers to Panchayats so far.

Apart from the Cumulative Devolution Index awards, the PM will give Incremental Devolution Index awards to those States that have devolved maximum powers to Panchayats in the last three years. They include Sikkim. States that have made maximum efforts to e-enable Panchayats like Assam, Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal will get a separate award. � PTI
