GUWAHATI, July 9 The summer vacation that they planned to spend with their grandparents in Kolkata turned out to be the most horrible experience for siblings Bhaveshi and Spandan, who are still to come to terms with the death of their brother Durlav Sethia, who lost his life due to Thursdays blast at Gossaingaon.

Passengers of the Garib Rath Express that was derailed by the blast triggered by the NDFB militants, the three siblings along with mother Archana were en-route their grandparents home in Kolkata, in a coupe in the power van behind the engine.

Tears rolled down on the face of the grief-stricken mother as she narrated how she pulled out his son from the mud mass, not knowing what had happened in the darkness of that fateful night. Her second child, six years old Durlav was a class I student in the Maharshi Vidya Mandir School, Silpukhuri.

Bruised at several places and shocked, both the siblings explained the terrible experience to the visitors at their Silpukhuri house.

I woke up feeling wet and realized that my feet were struck in the mud. Yelling and searching for my children in the darkness, I got the replies from the other two kids, who were also struck in the mud. While searching for Durlav, who was sleeping beside me, I found his trousers and all three of us struggled hard to pull him out of the mud, said Archana Sethia.

For hours there was no medical help, as I yelled for medical assistance, oxygen and doctor. Why cant there be a medical team in the trains, when the government knows that such untoward incident may take place any day? she asked regretting the fact that her son did not receive timely medical assistance. Usually, we go to Gangtok for summer vacations, where my family lives. This is for the first time my children decided to spend the vacation at their grand parents place, she added.

While seeing off his family at the railway station, Durlavs father Sanjay Sethia requested the ticket examiner to shift his family from the power van to a safer coach, which however, did not happen.

Is there no mechanism at all to prevent such incident, despite the fact that intelligence inputs about such incidents were received well ahead of time? Whatever has happed to us must not happen to any other family, said the aggrieved grandfather Dhan Raj Sethia.
