Sibal's intervention sought to end NEHU VC impasse

SHILLONG, Oct 8 (PTI) - In a bid to end the impasse over the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor to the North Eastern Hill University, Meghalaya Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh met Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal in New Delhi and sought Central intervention.

"I have apprised him of the present situation at NEHU.

I requested the Union minister to depute a team of officials from the ministry to assess it," Lyngdoh said over phone from Delhi after meeting Sibal yesterday.

The government can only advise the Centre on the issues related to the university and few press clippings were also shown to Sibal on the current position in NEHU, Lyngdoh said adding he has Sibal's intervention in solving the issue.

He said Sibal had assured him that the problems plaguing NEHU over appointment of AN Rai as the new VC will be looked into.
