RANGIYA, April 20 � Rangiya Police SI PHaloi was seriously injured on his head and few other policemen on duty were also hurt when local people turned violent and pelted stones on the former during a Bihu function at RHSS playground in the wee hours today.
As per reports, the incident was the fallout of another incident of clash between two youths present as audience at that time. Police intervened and controlled the situation. However, this eventually led others to turn violent demanding why police did not intiate any action against the duo and let them to go away.
Subsequently, a section of audience gathered and people from nearby areas joined them. The mob turned violent. Later, the situation so worsened that the public began pelting stones on the securitymen venting their ires. Police fired tear gas shells to control the situation. In the incident, the SI suffered head injury and others, many females, also suffered injuries. SDPO Mrinal Deka who reached the place of occurrence later brought the situation under control.
