By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, May 26 - An hour-long heavy shower this evening caused waterlogging in various parts of the city.

Waterlogging was witnessed mainly at Hatigaon, Panjabari, Kerakuchi, Sixmile, Chandmari, Beltola and Lachit Nagar.

The rain caused much inconvenience to the commuters, as it occurred just before the start of the night curfew. Traffic came to a standstill at several places due to flash floods.

The waterlogging put motorists like me in deep trouble. It took me around half an hour to reach home from Christianbasti whereas it normally takes only 15 minutes for the same distance, said Abhijit Kalita, a resident of Hatigaon.

According to an official at the Regional Meteorological Centre, moderate rainfall will occur in Guwahati in the next two days. Thunderstorm and gusty wind with speed up to 30 to 40 km per hour is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Today, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.9 degrees Celsius, the official added.
