Shortage of staff hits Goalpara DI&CC

GOALPARA, Aug 27 - On one hand, the government is giving importance to industrial growth for generating employment, but on the other, acute staff shortage in the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DI&CC) is affecting proper functioning of the office and also in promoting growth of industries in the underdeveloped district of Goalpara.

This correspondent visited the office on Tuesday to seek information about some industrial units registered earlier but to his utter dismay, the information could not be provided due to non-availability of the office peon�who could have located the file for furnishing the information.

Quoting official sources from the DI&CC, Goalpara, this correspondent was informed that all officials present in the office are used to multi-tasking jobs from running errands for official work by driving the official vehicle to ferrying files and entertaining visitors, and keeping the office tidy due to staff shortage.

Official sources informed that the DI&CC GM Rana Saikia is a physically challenged person, who is at present attached to the Commissionerate of DI&CC, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati, while both the functional managers Dhireswar Kachari and Umesh Kumar are attached to the Commissionerate of DI&CC and Assam Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (AIIDC), Guwahati, respectively. Dealing assistant Nijara Deka, peon Bhagwan Pathak are attached with the DC�s office, Goalpara for the last three and four years, while�the lone driver Mokibul Rahman has been attached to the DC�s office for the last 20 years. Another dealing assistant Rayan Das and office peon Sabin Das are on COVID duty.
