Short film Saoli bags award at California fest

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - Saoli, a short film based on skin colour discrimination written, directed and produced by city-based Kumar Kuldip Medhi, has won the second spot at the International KidsNFilm Festival held on November 16 at Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum Theater, California, United States.

Saoli was selected in the best narrative shorts-professional category, according to a press release issued here today.

The story is about a little girl Saoli who feels the pain of being born with a dark complexion and the mindset of people prevailing in society that dark-skinned people are meant for inferior works.

Saoli has already received six awards as well as 27 official selections at different national and international film festivals in India and abroad. It has also been chosen by the International Film and Video Festival �Catharsis� as an official selection in the competition category.

The film will be screened from December 7 to 16 at more than 20 venues in several Russian cities: Moscow, St Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Penza, Vladimir, Novosibirsk, Pskov, Vladivostok, etc.

Saoli has been selected for the 7th Woodpecker International Film Festival, India�s biggest film festival on issue-based cinema that will be held from November 29 to December 1 in New Delhi.
