By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - Although Durga Puja is just round the corner, the people are still flooding the markets to purchase clothes for themselves and for their near and dear ones.

The skyrocketing prices of essential commodities have failed to dampen the spirits of people. The affluent and marginalised, the young and old all are keen to bask in the festive spirit and seek the blessings of the Mother Goddess for prevalence of goodness in society.

Fancy Bazar being the most sought after destination for all sections of the population, is still teeming with people. Buyers hailing from outside the city are also flocking to this market as it satisfies citizens of all hues.

For people like us belonging to the low middle income group, Fancy Bazar is the first choice. It is possible for my family to shop here, said Gopal Deka from Hajo. Deka added that he has purchased readymade kids wear for his children and they are very happy.

This festive season, apart from traditional wear, the fashion-conscious citizens, particularly the girls, are opting for trendy fusion wear. Stores dealing in various accessories that have to go with a trendy dress, are also doing good business.

Apart from Fancy Bazar, Ganeshguri is also witnessing a heavy rush of market goers. This point is already decked up with colourful lights that illuminate the streets after dusk. A sense of joy prevails as citizens of different age groups are shopping for a wide range of accessories.

Along with clothes stores, the beauty parlours are doing brisk business, too. With everyone conscious about their looks, the beauty care segment is extending various offers to attract more customers.

Pre-puja is a hectic time for us. We have to work overtime to cater to our clients, said Babeeta, a beautician.
