Shilpi Divas celebrations in Tezpur, Sivasagar

TEZPUR, Jan 17 � People of Tezpur, along with sociopolitical organizations like Asom Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur unit, AASU Tezpur unit, Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalist Union, Ban Theater, etc., paid rich tribute to Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala on the occasion of the 62nd Silpi Divas, today.

The Asom Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur unit organized various programmes, including a competition on Jyoti Sangeet at Sahitya Sabha Bhaban and his cremation ground at Kamala Nagar, Nikamul Satra.

Paying tribute to the cultural legend, president of Tezpur unit Sahitya Sabha recalled the contribution of Rupkwnor towards the society and urged the Assamese people to come forward to follow the ideology of the cultural legend.

Several programmes were also held at Poki, where Rupkonwar used to reside.

The Ban Theater family also organized competition and commemorative programmes. People also paid tribute legendary artist at Trimurty Udyan.

Sivasagar: According to A Correspondent from Sivasagar, the Asom Sanskritik Maha Sabha (ASMS), Sivasagar district unit has chalked out a two-day programme.

Delivering his keynote address, eminent litterateur Dr Krishna Kumar Mishra said, �Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala used his songs first in his musical plays Sonit Konwari and Karengor Logori ... these songs gave a new direction to Assamese music.�

A souvenir was also released on the occasion by Pratap Baruah, vice-president of Asom Sanskritik Maha Sabha.

The programme was also attended by noted writer Hiranmoyee Dutta, Sankar Das, president of ASMS, social activist Bap Chandra Dutta and artist Gamel Nase.
