Shillong stadium to get Central aid under Khelo India programme

SHILLONG, Nov 7 - The JN Sports Complex in the Meghalaya capital has been identified as one of the six centres across the country to identify and groom Olympics-level talents under the Khelo India programme.

The JN Sports Complex will receive an estimated Rs 8.39 crore from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to run the programme and identify new talents. The programme will run for the next four years.

�JN Sports Complex, Shillong has been approved as Khelo India State Centre of Excellence with financial support of Rs. 8.39 Cr for 4 years. The Centre will be a world-class facility to train our best sporting talents,� Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a tweet.

A budget of Rs 67.32 crore has been sanctioned for a period of four years to finance the overall programme. Apart from the JN Sports Complex chosen by the Union Sports Ministry for this programme, the other identified centres are the States Sports Academy, Sarusajai, Assam (Rs 7.96 crore), New Sports Complex, Silvassa, Daman and Diu (Rs 8.05 crore), MP State Academy, Madhya Pradesh (Rs 19 crore), Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra (Rs 16 crore) and the Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, Sikkim (Rs 7.91 crore).

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju said, �Creating centres of sporting excellence across the country is a step towards our vision of making India one of the top 10 countries in Olympics 2028.�
