Shillong hosts Bharat Rang Mahotsav

GUWAHATI, Feb 9 - The 21st edition of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) is being held at Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.

Organised by the National School of Drama (NSD), the prestigious annual theatre festival has come to Meghalaya for the first time with an assortment of plays.

Besides Shillong, the festival is being held simultaneously in four other cities � Delhi, Dehradun, Nagpur and Puducherry.

The festival, which will conclude tomorrow, was inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the Meghalaya capital on February 4.

As in the earlier years, this year too, the BRM has brought a rich bouquet of plays depicting various shades of emotions. Altogether seven plays will be staged on the occasion that include a combination of plays by Indian and international thespians.

The inaugural function of the BRM 2020 kick-started at Soso Tham Auditorium with the performance of a Khasi group. The dignitaries present on the occasion included the Meghalaya Chief Minister as the chief guest and Meghalaya�s Art and Culture Commissioner and Secretary Fredrick Roy Kharkongor as the special guest. The function was presided over by Prof Suresh Sharma, Director in-charge, NSD.

Earlier, the festival at Shillong began with Probin Saikia�s ballad, �Jona Gabhoru�, which is a tale of a young hero who goes out in quest of fortune and wins a princess.
