By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, June 9 - The District Magistrate (DM) of East Khasi Hills district, PS Dkhar, today announced further relaxation of the curfew hours in the disturbed areas here as well as the entire town with effect from Sunday.

In an order, the DM said that the curfew would be relaxed for 11 hours from tomorrow in areas under the Lumdiengjri Police Station including Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment and Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House areas (excluding localities beyond the Umshyrpi bridge). The curfew will be relaxed from 7 am to 6 pm.

However, the night curfew will continue in the whole town from 9 pm to 5 am till further orders.

Meanwhile, the DM observed that by taking advantage of the prevailing law-and-order situation in the State capital which has led to the clamping of curfew, many shopkeepers and retailers have hiked prices of essential commodities. He said that after the assessment of the stock position of essential commodities with traders and stockists, it has been found that there is no shortage of essential items and therefore, there is no reason for the escalation in the prices.

Strict action will be taken against retailers and shopkeepers found selling essential items at unreasonable and exorbitant rates, Dkhar warned.
