GUWAHATI, March 18 � The Axom Jatiya Gana Sangram Parishad today sought the intervention of the State Governor to prevent the shifting of the North East Zonal office of the Sangeet Natak Akademi from Guwahati to Agartala.
In a memorandum to the Governor, the Parishad said that the Sangeet Natak Akademi first set up a Sattriya Kendra in Guwahati on July 15, 2008 and later the Akademi set up its regional centre in October, 2011. However, recently, the Akademi tried to shift the office from Guwahati to Agartala.
The memorandum said that if the centre is shifted, the artistes of the region would have to face serious hurdles because of communication bottleneck to Agartala. The artistes from all over the region can easily come to Guwahati, but the situation would be different if the office is shifted to Agartala, the memorandum said.
The Parishad further pointed out that instead of shifting its regional centre from Guwahati, the Akademi should take steps to set up its own centres in all the State capitals of the North East.
