GUWAHATI, Aug 6 Accusing the Congress of maintaining double standards in its stand on corruption, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari today said that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit ought to resign immediately following her indictment by the CAG in the Commonwealth Games scam.
When Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa was named by the Lokayukta in the mining scam, we asked him to resign. But the Congress is trying to shield Sheila Dixit even after her name has been mentioned in the CAG report in a scam of over Rs 20,000 crore. This exposes the double standards of the Congress, and it has no moral right to talk about corruption, Gadkari said at a press conference.
Gadkari said that Commonwealth Games organizing committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi had been sent to jail for his involvement in a scam of Rs 1,200 crore but the Congress was maintaining a resounding silence over the indictment of the Delhi Chief Minister involved in a scam of far greater dimension. Rather, the Congress is now busy to cover up the emerging developments in an apparent bid to protect Dixit, he added.
On the BJPs Assembly poll debacle in Assam, the party president said that it was assessing the situation and working out a strategy to enhance it presence at different levels, including at the grassroots. He, however, ruled out any change in the party leadership in the State in view of the poor showing.
We do not think it is necessary to effect any change in the party leadership in Assam. We are for strengthening the party in the State, and are working out a strategy towards that end, Gadkari said.
