Shanti Sadbhavana Yatra in memory of Tarun Gogoi from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 - A State-wide �Shanti Sadbhavna Yatra� in the memory of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be undertaken from December 9.

The Yatra, under the auspices of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), will begin from Jorhat on December 9 and end on January 12, 2021, at Guwahati.

During the course of the Yatra, the ashes of the departed leader will be immersed at various rivers across Assam.

�Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi�s last wish was to undertake a trip across entire Assam. As his son I want to take that responsibility. A Shanti Sadbhavna Yatra in the memory of the former Chief Minister and under the initiative of the APCC will be undertaken from December 9. It will commence from Jorhat and culminate at Guwahati on January 12,� Deputy Leader of the Congress Party in Lok Sabha and Tarun Gogoi�s son Gaurav Gogoi said today.

He added, �At Jorhat, I along with my mother, my sister, all senior leaders of the APCC and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh, among others, will take part in the event.�

A portion of the departed leader�s ashes will be immersed at the Brahmaputra at Nimatighat that day.

�On December 10, we will hold a shradhanjali programme at Titabar where I myself and my mother and sister will be present. That same day we will go to Sadiya where the ashes of the former Chief Minister will be immersed in the Brahmaputra. On December 12, the ashes will be immersed at the Dikhow River at Sivasagar,� Gaurav Gogoi said.

He added, �From Sadiya to Dhubri, and from Dispur to Hailakandi, we will cover all the districts of Assam. During the Yatra, all-faith prayers will be held and ashes of the departed leader will be immersed at nearby rivers. The aim behind holding the Yatra is to promote the ideals of the former Chief Minister and highlight his vision for the State as well as the efforts undertaken by him for different sections of the society.�

Gaurav Gogoi said that no political speeches will be made during the Yatra. �We will cover the Brahmaputra Valley, the Barak Valley and Hill districts and fulfill his last wish,� said the Lok Sabha MP.

He said that a memorial meeting will be held at Guwahati on December 23.

�The former Chief Minister had passed away on November 23. So on December 23 we will organise the memorial meeting during which a memorial book on the departed leader will be released,� added Gaurav Gogoi.
