Shanmuganthan sworn in as Meghalaya Guv

SHILLONG, May 20 � New Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganthan was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court Uma Nath Singh at the Raj Bhavan here today.

Shanmuganthan has succeeded Keshari Nath Tripathi who was given the additional charge of Meghalaya in January this year, apart from his charge as Governor of West Bengal.

Immediately after taking charge, he held two separate meetings with members of the State Cabinet and senior officials. According to sources, the Governor sought a detailed information about the current state of affairs in the State.

Later, speaking to the media, Shanmuganthan said, he would like to get acquainted with the people of the State. �I want to be a people-friendly Governor,� he said, adding, he would go by the Constitution in discharging his duties.

To a specific query, Shanmuganthan added that there are various important roles that a Governor has to perform and he was looking forward to take those responsibilities.

Shanmuganthan has been associated with the BJP and held several important posts and had joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and became an active member in 1962.

He is a prolific writer and has penned several books and articles in English and Tamil.
