DHEKIAJULI, Oct 22 One of the oldest naamghars of Dhekiajuli town, namely Shankar Mandir Naamghar, established in 1962 will celebrate its golden jubilee from November 3 to 6 in a befitting manner as informed by Dhruba Kumar Borah, general secretary of the organising committee.

Needless to say that a few foresighted people established this naamghar in 1962 with a hope that one day it will enrich the cultural heritage of the area. The first committee was formed with Nalini Bala Tamuli as president, who donated the land for the naamghar, Jangu Saikia as secretary and Ramesh Chandra Bora as assistant secretary.

Due to efforts by various committees and present secretary Dhruba Kumar Bora, this naamghar has become a centre for cultural excellence.

As per programme on the opening day at 8.30 am, the flag will be hoisted. The main function of the day will be Omeo Puspalata stage opening programme and cultural procession. It was a dream of MP Joshep Toppo to establish an open stage at Dhekiajuli in memory of freedom fighter Omeo Kumar Das and Puspalata Das. His dream is about to be fulfilled now.

On November 4, the programme will be dedicated in the name of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla. The days programme will include a Diha Naam competition along with Borgeet competition.

On November 5, the days programme will be dedicated in memory of Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika. In the evening, local artistes will present Bhaona Karna Parva where MP Toppo will take part.

On the following day, senior citizens will take part in recitation and story-telling programme. An open meeting and religious discussion will be held on this day. The main attraction of the evening will be Barpetas famous fireworks followed by cultural evening by invited artistes.

With Rabindra Nath Bhuyan as president, Narayan Bora as working president and Dhruba Kumar Bora as general secretary, the golden jubilee celebration committee has also resolved to take out a souvenir on this occasion.
