GUWAHATI, March 27 - BJP national president Amit Shah will hit the campaign trail in Assam for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections by addressing public rallies at Kaliabor and Jorhat tomorrow, even as Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit the State on April 3 for his partys poll campaign.

Shah will reach Jorhat tomorrow at 1 pm from New Delhi and then depart for Kaliabor by helicopter. He will address a rally at the T Ao Rural Stadium at Kaliabor at 1:40 pm for AGP candidate Mani Madhav Mahanta. As per the seat sharing arrangement among the constituents of the ruling NDA in Assam, the Kaliabor seat has been allotted to the AGP.

Later, he will address a public meeting at the Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology playground at 3:30 pm. BJPs Topon Kumar Gogoi is the ruling alliances candidate from the Jorhat constituency.

The BJP chief will be accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, AGP president Atul Bora and other senior leaders of the alliance at both venues. Shah will depart for New Delhi from Jorhat in the evening.

Both Kaliabor and Jorhat constituencies will go to the polls in the first phase on April 11.

Shah will campaign in Assam just two days prior to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister is scheduled to come to the State on March 30. Modi will address BJPs public meetings at Gohpur and Moran. Gohpur falls under the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency, while Moran falls under the Dibrugarh constituency. Both Tezpur and Moran will also go to the polls in the first phase.

Both our top leaders will lead our Lok Sabha campaign from the front. They are our main star campaigners. While one is the Prime Minister, the other is our party chief. People recognize them and they enjoy massive popularity across the country... The visits of Prime Minister Modi and party chief Shah will give a big momentum to our campaign in Assam in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, said State BJP spokesperson Pramod Swamy.

Both Modi and Shah are each expected to visit Assam at least twice more in April for campaigning in the constituencies that will go to the polls in the second and third phases.

Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi will come to Assam on April 3. He will attend public meetings at two or three venues at Kaliabor, Tezpur and Lakhimpur constituencies. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee is expected to finalise the details shortly.
