SIVASAGAR/SONARI, March 25 - BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday hit out at Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi claiming that the State made no progress and during his 15-year tenure, which only saw unprecedented corruption and illegal infiltration.
Addressing two election rallies at Sivasagar and Sonari, he vowed that his party would take Assam on the road of progress if voted to power by ensuring a corruption-free Government and stopping illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.
At Parag Chaliha Stadium, Sivasagar, Shah said, The Congress has been voted to power in Assam for 15 years. However, the people in the State are still deprived of pure drinking water and electricity.
Appealing to the people to vote for the BJP, he claimed, Corruption is highest in Assam. No money is being spent for development of roads, electricity supply, building good hospitals. If you search, the money sent for development will be found in the ministers houses.
Earlier, Surabhi Rajkumari, candidate of Sivasagar LAC, who is contesting against veteran Congress leader Pranab Kr Gogoi, delivered his welcome speech in the rally.
Addressing a gathering in support of BJP candidate Tapan Kumar Gogoi at Sonari, Shah echoed the same sentiment saying that said this time, the voters of Assam will elect a Government that promises a corruption-free State.
Stating that (Ahom King) Sukhapha had stopped the Mughals 17 times from entering Assam, Shah alleged that the Congress has worked to make the State a home for infiltrators from Bangladesh.
BJP-led Government under Sarbananda Sonowals leadership will be of the poor, backward, adivasis, tribals and people living on far off hills, he said.
He also held the State Government responsible for one crore people remaining below the poverty line, 42 per cent not receiving clean drinking water, no electricity, increased maternal and child mortality rate, and 19,000 incidents of atrocities against women.
Shah was accompanied by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, and State BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.
