GUWAHATI, April 26 � The BJP today sounded the poll bugle for the next year�s Assembly elections in the State, with its president Amit Shah appealing to the people to make Assam free of Bangladeshis and the Congress.
Addressing a Janajagaran Samaroh at the Veterinary College ground, Khanapara here on Sunday, Shah, on his first visit to the State after taking charge as BJP�s national president, asserted that Assam will emerge as one of the most developed State, only when the Congress is ousted from power.
Shah, sharply criticizing the Congress government, said that Assam under the Congress reaped no developmental benefits except recording multiple scams, with corruption becoming the order of the day. �There is a need for a change of governance in Assam for better days. The corrupt Congress has failed to address all the pertinent issues of the State, including the issue of Bangladeshis,� said Shah, slamming the Congress government for the delay in NRC update. He mentioned that vote-bank politics is the major reason behind the delay and urged the people to give an opportunity to the BJP to form the next government in Assam to resolve the issue of Bangladeshis once and for all.
However, Shah said that the Hindus facing persecution in Bangladesh and taking shelter in Assam or any other part of the country will be protected by the Government of India.
On the other hand, Shah, making his observations on the resources of the State, said that Assam had all the potential to emerge as a tourist hub and assured that the BJP government will tap this potential of the State to the optimum.
�In Assam, the BJP is getting ready for the Assembly election. We had aimed to reach a 25-lakh membership target in Assam and we have succeeded in our mission. The coming Assembly election will be fought on the issue of illegal Bangladeshis and development of the region,� announced Shah, adding that the wind of positive changes under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will touch every nook and corner of the country.
Shah, highlighting the achievements of the Modi government said that in a few months after forming the government at the Centre, the BJP could do a lot for the welfare of the common people.
�The BJP has succeeded in checking price rise, corruption, has undertaken many schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana for the benefit of the poor people, is acting on black money, and has ensured a respectable position for India at the international level without compromising on its security.�
The meeting was attended by many senior leaders of the party, including office-bearers, MPs, MLAs and Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Dharmendra Pradhan, Sarbananda Sonowal, amongst others. All lambasted the Congress for the backwardness of the Northeast and promised prosperity and progress of the region under the BJP.
Earlier, State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya welcomed the national leader by presenting a �Hengdan� (sword) and expressed that Assam will surely witness a change in the 2016 Assembly election.
