GUWAHATI, Sept 10 - Emphasising the need for total implementation of the State population policy in Assam, NGO Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has stated that candidates contesting any election in the State must also be brought under the purview of the policy.
�Not just the government jobs but all elections, PSU recruitments and beneficiaries of different government schemes must also be brought under the ambit of this policy if the State wants to check population explosion and ensure a steady economic growth. At the same time, not only the Panchayat elections, the two-child norm should also be made applicable for contesting Assembly election,� SGBG president Krishno K Borooah said.
Laying stress on long-term measures to address the problems of unemployment and poverty, he said that with a strong population policy in place, the State would be in a better position to adopt a targeted approach towards solving these problems.
