SGBG seeks probe into cattle smuggling along Indo-Bangla border

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 - Demanding a thorough probe into the allegations of a powerful syndicate carrying out cattle trade along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam, NGO Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in the matter.

Referring to the arrest of a journalist in Dhubri and subsequent allegations and counter-allegations from various segments over the matter, the NGO stated that there is certainly more to it than meets the eye.

Cattle theft and smuggling to neighbouring Bangladesh is not a new development in Dhubri. However, the matter has not been given due importance due to reasons best known to the authorities. A thorough probe into the matter is of utmost importance as it involves our international border and thus, is a matter of national security as well. Both the allegations of a powerful syndicate dominating the cattle trade and smuggling in Dhubri, as well as the allegations of extortion and bribe to sweep the matter under the carpet, must be thoroughly probed, the Guwahati-based NGO demanded.
