By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 25 With the expansion of Guwahati city, the need to extend city bus services on different routes is strongly being felt by the citizens, specially in the areas hitherto not covered by the bus service and other means of public transport.

The Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has requested the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) AK Agnihotri to introduce at least five city buses on the Kharghuli, Jaypur, Noonmati road that has been recently completed.

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the SGBG president Dhiren Baruah has said that the population of Kharghuli-Jaypur-Noonmati area is not less than 10,000. But due to lack of proper transport system, a large number of people from the area have to go to their workplaces on foot. Everyday, many people of lower and middle income group have to walk long distances for their various works. During any emergency also, people face immense difficulties due to the lack of good public transport system, Baruah added.

The NGO asked the Deputy Commissioner to introduce city bus service from Adabari, Kachari via Kharghuli, Jaypur, Noonmati Sector-I to Patharquarry.

Further, it also requested to accelerate the bus service from Church Field, Chandmari, Chhaymile to Panjabaris Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
