SGBG plea to dist admin on Judges Field

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 26 Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has pleaded with the district administration of Kamrup (Metro) to grant permission to Anna Hazares followers for holding their proposed May 3 public meeting at the Judges Field.

SGBG president Dhiren Barua told this newspaper this evening that the Judges Field is a community property of the Guwahatians and the authorities have no moral right to prevent the Guwahatians from holding their public meetings at this centrally located playground.

In fact, there is an agreement between the district authorities and the representatives of the peoples organisations that the Judges Field could be used for holding public meetings and for sports events, without damaging the ground. Even a court order is also there to this effect, Barua said.

The Judges Field is a historic ground and it is located at a central place of the city. It should be allowed to be used for holding public meetings for the greater interest of the democracy of the country, said Barua.
