SGBG calls for strict adherence to lockdown norms

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 15 - NGO Save Guwahati, Build Guwahati (SGBG) has asked the people of Guwahati to stop being casual about the preventive measures to check the spread of COVID-19, and to ensure social distancing and proper use of masks at public places so that a negative message is not sent out to the people in the rest of Assam.

On the one hand, some people oppose extension of lockdown in the capital city, but at the same time, they flout all social distancing norms when the restrictions are lifted. COVID management is not possible without active cooperation from the people. We have seen Guwahatians rubbing shoulders at grocery shops without wearing their masks properly, let alone the question of maintaining social distancing. Due to the carelessness of some of the Guwahatians, the entire city had to face restrictions, Krishno K Borooah, president of the organisation stated.

The rising number of COVID-19 cases in Guwahati is a cause of concern for the entire city and State. Now its time we stopped adopting a casual approach and followed the health department guidelines, even after the lockdown is relaxed, SGBG vice president Ajoy Dutta said.

The organisation also said that due to the careless attitude of a section of people of the city, a number of districts and small towns of the State imposed travel curbs and other restrictions on the people coming to their places from Guwahati.

As the number of cases went up, the government took a decision to further extend the lockdown in the city, which has affected a sizeable number of people from lower and middle income groups. Its a collective responsibility of all Guwahatians to strictly follow all the norms and guidelines and set a good example for the rest of the North East, SGBG added.
