Severe heat in NE due to Arabian Sea cyclone

GUWAHATI, June 12 - The �very severe� cyclonic storm, Bayu, now lying over east central Arabian Sea, is influencing the weather condition in the North Eastern region, leading to soaring temperatures in the region.

It is expected that the cyclonic storm will get debilitated on entry into the Gujarat Coast tomorrow, following which the NE region will begin getting some relief from the scorching heat.

Sources in the Borjhar-based Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here said that the prevailing hot weather condition is likely to continue till tomorrow afternoon under the impact of Bayu.

North Lakhimpur today recorded the highest day (maximum) temperature of 37.8 degree Celsius, which was 6.6 degree Celsius above normal. Guwahati recorded 37.4 degree Celsius, 5.5 degree Celsius above normal.

Agartala today recorded a day temperature of 37 degree Celsius, 4.8 degree Celsius above normal. Dibrugarh (35 degree Celsius) and Imphal (33 degree Celsius) also recorded above normal day temperatures.

Significantly, Cherrapunji today recorded a day temperature of 26.2 degree Celsius, 3.4 degree Celsius above normal. However, Shillong recorded 24.2 degree Celsius and this was 0.5 degree Celsius above normal. Itanagar also recorded high day temperature of 36.2 degree Celsius, Aizawl 30.4 degree Celsius and Kohima 27.5 degree Celsius.
