Severe hailstorm lashes Dhubri district

GOLAKGANJ, April 25 � A severe hailstorm lashed Dhubri town and its adjacent areas like Adabari, Dharmashala, Amervita, Howrarpar, Falimari, Motirchar, Sagolchora, Alomganj, Geramari, Thuria pahar, Khuta Bagra, Agomoni in Dhubri subdivision and many other areas late on Friday night, devastating houses and standing trees. According to sources, a total of 150 houses were damaged by the storm in the village areas of Dhubri subdivision. Many trees were uprooted by the fierce winds.

The Border Out Post and villages in the area of 17 Bn BSF were affected during the cyclone on Thursday night, sources said. Bop Chowkichar, Mahamaya char, Old Diyaralga, Salapara and Hatir char and villages of Mollahpara, Salapara part 1 and 2, Sarkarpara area were also affected by the heavy cyclone. Two persons, Samana Bewa and Enamul Hoque were injured in Gauripur area due to hailstorms on Friday evening. Several hectares of cropped area in Dhubri district has been affected due to massive rains, hailstorm and bad weather.The farmers are demanding compensation for the damage by the hailstorm.
