By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 28 A number of hardcore members of the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) may soon come out to join the peace process following sustained operations by the police and security forces and efforts by leaders of the Ranjan Daimary faction of the outfit to persuade them to join the process of talks.

Highly placed security sources told The Assam Tribune that the NDFB(S) has suffered a series of setbacks in recent times following sustained operations as a number of hardcore members of the outfit were either eliminated or arrested in recent times, which checked the activities of the outfit to some extent.

Sources said that efforts are also on to create division in the ranks of the NDFB(S) as the chairman IK Songbijit is not a Bodo youth and at the same time, efforts are on to send a message to the hardcore members of the outfit that the police and security forces would go hard against them.

At the same time, the Ranjan Daimary faction of the NDFB, which is under cease-fire agreement with the government, has been asked to increase its strength by bringing in as many persons as possible from the NDFB(S) to its fold. The leaders of the NDFB(R) are trying to get in touch with NDFB(S) members to persuade them to join the peace process and security sources said that a number of NDFB(S) members are likely to come out of the outfit shortly.
