Seven boats seized

GUWAHATI, May 19 � The Kamrup Metro district administration today carried out a crack down on mechanised ferries being operated without valid licences or not adhering to safety norms.

The action was undertaken by a team led by Additional DC Rajib Prakash Barua and comprising officials from the district administration, Inland Water Transport and River Police.

Inspections were carried out at Rajaduar Madhyam Khanda and North Guwahati ghat.

During the operation, a total of seven mechanised boats were seized. The owners of the boats had not renewed their licences for many years and were also not following safety norms like making life jackets available to passengers.

The boats were also found to have operated beyond the stipulated time of 7 pm in the evening and to have carried passengers beyond the permissible capacity.
