Seven Bills introduced in State Assembly

GUWAHATI, March 6 - The State government today introduced six Bills in the Assembly to amend the Acts of various autonomous councils. The amendments in the Bills propose that the Chief Executive Councillor or Executive Councillors of the councils �may be removed from the office only if the resolution is passed by not less than two-thirds majority of the total numbers of elected members� of the respective councils as against by �a majority� of members now.

The Bills are: the Deori Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017; the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017; the Mising Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017; the Tiwa Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017; the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017.

The government also introduced the Assam Public Procurement Bill, 2017. The Bill seeks to regulate public procurement with the objectives of �ensuring transparency, accountability and probity in the procurement process, fair and equitable treatment of bidders, promoting competition, enhancing efficiency and economy, maintaining integrity and public confidence in the public procurement process�.
