Seven arrested in Jonai

JONAI, July 22 - Jonai police arrested a total seven youths from different parts of Jonai sub-division and seized 52 packets of psychotropic substance from their possession.

The police following a tip off picked up two youths from a Guwahati-Jonai bound night super bus at Jonai on Friday and seized the brown sugar-like substances. The police following their confession later nabbed five others from Laimekuri area under Jonai police station.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered in Jonai police in this regard and all seven arrested have been remanded to judicial custody. On the other hand, Jonai police with the help of Leku Village Defence Party conducted operations against illegal drugs trade at Assam-Arunachal border and nabbed three persons including a woman involved in the illicit business.

It is learnt that despite strict vigil, a section of youth of bordering areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has been selling drugs in various parts of the areas which has become a matter of concern for the people.
