Services of 6,700 school teachers to be regularised

GUWAHATI, Feb 28 - The State Cabinet today approved 12 new revenue circles in the State and also gave its nod to regularise posts of 6,700 school teachers, who were serving on contractual basis.

The last Cabinet meeting of the Tarun Gogoi Government also approved formation of new development councils in the State.

The list of 12 new revenue circles include Laukhuwa, Rangapara, Joleswar, Borgang, Athani, Manikpur, Balijana, Pub Mangaldai, Gauripur, West Dispur, East Dispur and Guwahati West.

In another important decision, the Cabinet also approved a new film policy, which will be prepared based on the suggestions made by national award winning filmmaker Jahnu Baruah. The film industry has been demanding a vibrant film policy with the interests of producers in mind for quite some time now.

�It was also decided that the monthly remuneration of gaon burhas (village headmen) will be hiked from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000,� official sources informed this reporter.

Further, the employees of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) will be merged with the Zila Parishad and henceforth will come under the State Government pay roll.
