Sensitisation against COVID-19

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 17 - As a pre-emptive measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the State tourism department has instructed the hoteliers and tour operators to give the details of domestic as well as foreign tourists currently staying in Assam, along with particulars of their health condition and itinerary.

Swinging into action in the wake of the Covid-19 alert, the department has launched extensive sensitisation at major tourist spots, lodges and other places, stressing the need for precautionary measures against the pandemic.

Director Tourism Deba Kumar Misra told The Assam Tribune that tour operators, tourist guides as well as hoteliers have been instructed to update about the domestic and foreign tourists in the State along with special instructions to strictly implement cleaning and disinfection protocol.

Sensitisation drives have been extensively launched in Kaziranga, Pobitora and Majuli, which witness a signification footfall of tourists. However, since the national parks, sanctuaries etc., have been closed down, the number of tourists has gone down significantly and most of the remaining tourists are planning their departure. We are keeping a track on the situation, he added.

Special instructions have been issued to the reception counters of tourist spots, lodges, etc., the drivers and all others associated with the tourism sector to follow the precautions as well as report any such case which needs immediate attention of the health department or the authorities.

Besides, for the convenience of tourists, tourism officers are being deputed to assist in any emergency situation. Tourists have been advised to stay away from gatherings and follow social distancing. Health centres near tourist spots are being kept in the loop to respond to any health emergency.
