Senior scribe Lam Thabah passes away

SHILLONG, Sept 22 - Senior journalist of Meghalaya and Editor of vernacular newspaper, U Nongsain Hima, Lam Thabah passed away this morning. He was 52.

Thabah began his career as a reporter for a local Khasi daily, U Rupang. He became the Editor of U Nongsain Hima in 2003.

Thabah received the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award in 2014. He had written a series of reports on social ostracization of some villagers at Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills district. These villagers were denied their PDS quota by the traditional heads.

After his reports, the villagers were able to get their PDS share. Thabah was popular among his colleagues and friends.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condoled the demise of senior journalist Thabah. In his condolence message, Sangma said that he had known Thabah �who believed in reporting facts and truths� personally. He said that Thabah�s untimely demise is a great loss for the media fraternity.
