GUWAHATI, Feb 10 - Senior journalist Dharani Kalita, former Assistant Editor with The Assam Tribune, passed away at his Navaroon Path, Jatia, residence here last night.
He was 74 and had been suffering from old-age ailments.
Born at Urput Sattra at Borihat in the then undivided Kamrup district on April 1, 1943, Kalita moved to Guwahati after passing his matriculation examination and settled here.
He joined The Assam Tribune on July 9, 1971, and rose to the position of Assistant Editor. He retired on March 31, 2005.
Kalita was also a good organiser and served the Guwahati Press Club in various capacities.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter, besides a host of relatives and well-wishers.
His last rites were performed at the Navagraha Crematorium here today.
