Senior citizens team up for poor students

BAIHATA CHARIALI, Jan 25 - With an aim to provide support to the economically poor students and patients, including specially-abled persons of the Pub Kamrup area, the Pub Kamrup Retired Senior Citizens� Association formed a Trust.

They formed the Trust on the occasion of their association�s foundation day celebration held at Karmaveer Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Memorial Library at Karara here recently. The programme of the day started with the hoisting of the association�s flag by Khagendra Nath Kalita, its president. It was followed by �smriti tarpan� initiated by Khargeswar Kakati, vice-president of the association.

An open meeting of the association was held on the occasion where a number of vital issues of the association were discussed and all the speakers laid stress on strengthening the association by membership drive and welfare activities in the society.

The meeting had also adopted a resolution to publish a mouth speech of the association to rejuvenate the writing skills and talents of the senior citizens along with other resolutions.

In the delegates� meeting, a new executive committee of the association was constituted with Abala Deka as president, Ghana Kanta Deka, Nazrul Islam and Ambika Pad Goswami as vice-presidents, Chakra Dhar Choudhury as chief secretary and Anil Thakuriya, Thaneswar Deka and Umed Ali Dewan as secretaries.
