Senior citizens are assets: Acharya

DIMAPUR, Aug 18 - While showing concerns towards the welfare of the senior citizens, Nagaland and Assam Governor PB Acharya said senior citizens are assets and not liabilities of the State.

The Governor said this during an interaction with some civil societies of Nagaland, such as Nagaland University Teachers� Association, Khonoma Nature Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary Trust (KNC&TST), Nagaland Tribal Council, Nagaland Senior Citizens� Association and Welfare Association for Handicapped (WAH) at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Monday evening.

The Governor assured the Nagaland Senior Citizens� Association of assistance to improve the infrastructure in their office located at the Old Secretariat. He also donated a sum of Rs 50,000 to the association.

During the interaction, the Nagaland University faculties submitted a representation demanding a thorough inquiry into financial irregularities in the university.

The Governor also accepted the KNC&TST invitation to stay at Khonoma village on August 21.

Interacting with the WAH, the Governor assured to blacktop the link road to the Disable Welfare Complex by the department concerned.
