By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, March 12 - A national seminar titled Women Empowerment & Gender Sensitisation: Convergences, Divergences, and Plurality, is being organised by the IQAC & Extension Education Cell of LCB College, Maligaon in association with Unity Education Foundation Guwahati at the college on April 6 and 7, said a press release.

Delegates from reputed universities and institutions will take part in discussions on various topics connected with the theme and sub-themes.

The seminar will aim to explore empowerment as a process that creates power in individuals over their own lives, society and in their communities. People are empowered when they are able to access the opportunities available to them without limitations and restrictions. Empowering women is an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty.

Though the State and Central governments are making continuous efforts to realise the objectives of gender equality, the success is still patchy as a large number of women are suffering from poverty, poor health, oppression, and violence, the release pointed out.

The seminar is an attempt to discuss the burning issues related to gender discrimination, awareness, and women empowerment so that the outcome can be translated into specific tools and policy formulation for gender issues.

Participants such as research scholars, academicians, industry experts and professionals not only from the region but also from other parts of the country can present papers on the topic: Women Empowerment & Gender Sensitisation: Convergences, Divergences and Plurality or sub-themes like gender disparity, women empowerment through education, political empowerment, women and the media, womens workforce participation and economic empowerment, awareness of legal rights of women and legal issues related to women, women entrepreneurship, women empowerment and Gandhian philosophy, education for gender equality, government policies for gender equality, women and the green economy, support for womens scholarship, womens abuse of patriarchal power or any other topic related to women empowerment, the release added.
