DERGAON, Nov 8 - A UGC-sponsored national seminar on �Violation of Human Rights Against Women in Rural India with special reference to Prevailing Superstition in the North Eastern Region� was held at the DKD College recently.
The seminar was organised with an objective to provide a platform for research scholars, academicians and social activists to express their views and opinion on this burning topic with special reference to the region. The seminar, held under the aegis of DKD College Teachers� Unit in association with Assam College Teachers� Association (ACTA ) Golaghat Zonal Committee and in collaboration with ACTA was inaugurated by Sewali Bordoloi, Registrar of Assam Women University.
In the inaugural meeting chaired by the president of ACTA Naren Changmai and moderated by the organising secretary Dr Pobitra Mahanta, the Principal of the college Dr Ranjit Bordoloi delivered the welcome address. The keynote address was presented by Dr Bolin Hazarika from the Department of Political Science, JB College, Jorhat, while the souvenir-cum-abstracts were released by Prof Hemkanta Phukan.
The chairman of the college governing body Bodheswar Kakoti and the chief manager of SBI, Dergaon branch Prafulla Das were the guests of honour. Among the 69 participants, a total of 53 papers on various sub-themes were presented in eight parallel technical sessions.
