Seminar on tribal textiles

GUWAHATI, Oct 21 - The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) held a seminar on the subject �Demand-Supply Dynamics of Tribal Textiles of North East� on its Silpukhuri campus here on Sunday.

Eighty stakeholders from different parts of the NE took part in the seminar sponsored by the office of the Development Commissioner of Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Event convenor Siddharth Mongol Borkatoky gave the introductory speech highlighting the importance of tribal textiles in the socio-economic spheres of the north-eastern region. The resource persons of the seminar � Debajit Misra and Parineta Borah, both alumni of NIFT Kolkata � gave extensive presentations and had interactive sessions with the participants. Fashion designers Pankhi Huzuri Hazarika from Assam and Gona Niji from Arunachal Pradesh showcased their collections developed from tribal textiles.
