GUWAHATI, July 1 - A seminar on �The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Implementation thereof in Assam� was held here today.

The seminar was organised by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Assam under the Department of Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes (WPT & BC).

Abhayapuri South Constituency MLA Ananta Kumar Malo attended the event as the chief guest.

In his speech, Malo said more should be done for the development and welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes and appealed to the departments to implement new schemes for their overall growth.

The seminar was attended by Hiren Nath, Commissioner of Police, KC Sarma, Secretary (Home and Political Department), Binita Pegu, Secretary (WPT & BC Department), among others. A number of technical sessions were also held on the occasion.
