Seminar on GI registration held

GUWAHATI, March 9 - The North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) Limited organised a �Seminar on Value Addition of GI Products from North East� and �Buyer Seller Meet� at the NEDFI House here on Wednesday. The event was supported by the Ministry of DoNER.

Abdul Jalil, Assistant Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam, who was present in the programme as chief guest, said NERAMAC has taken a good initiative by conducting the event and all present should utilise the knowledge shared here.

Speaking about NERAMAC�s achievements, Pankaj Kumar Prasad, Managing Director, NERAMAC said, �As part of promoting products from the North-east, NERAMAC has set up an outlet in New Delhi a few months back, and we are planning to start such outlets in other States as well. With this event, we hope to create more opportunities and connect buyers and sellers under one roof.�

The event saw the participation of industry experts, entrepreneurs and government departments. Present among them were Prof Aniruddha Deka, KK Handique State Open University; PK Bagchi, Senior IPR Attorney, Bureau of Patents & Trademarks; Deba Kumar Barman, proprietor, J14; Gunajit Brahma, Managing Director, Jeev Anksh Eco Products Pvt Ltd and L Abraham, proprietor, Ria Organic, who highlighted the potential of the State that needed to be tapped.

S Bhattacharjee, Executive Director, NERAMAC, said it has done GI registration of ten products from the North-east and registration of another ten products are also in the pipeline.
