Seminar on Dharmasastras

JALUKBARI, March 12 - The Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University (GU), under DRS-II UGC Special Assistance Programme, is organising a national seminar on the topic �Dharmasastras: Socio-cultural Heritage of Assam and Manipur� on March 15 and 16.

GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika will inaugurate the seminar on March 15 at the Phanidhar Datta Seminar Hall of the University with Prof Shrutidhara Chakravarty, head, Dept of Sanskrit, GU, in the chair. Prof Dipak Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, will be present as the chief guest.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Prof Braja Kishore Swain, retired professor of the Department of Dharmasastra, Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri. Around 50 scholars from Assam, Manipur and other parts of India will present their research papers at the seminar.
