Seminar on convergence of security forces and mass media

SILCHAR, June 20 - The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Department of Mass Communication of Assam University Silchar will conduct a joint seminar on �Convergence of Security Forces and Mass Media Towards Nation Building� here on June 23. This was informed by Brigadier Parimal Pant on Tuesday.

Addressing the media, Brigadier Pant and Dr Alfarid Hussain, Assistant Professor at Department of Mass Communication along with other officials of the Assam Rifles said that Lt General Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director General Assam Rifles, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) Major General Upendra Dwivedi and Prof Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor, Assam University Silchar are among the prominent personalities who would be attending the seminar.

�The seminar is an attempt to seek answers to numerous queries confronting India as a nation and its significant instruments of �nation building� like the security forces and mass media. We are confident that the seminar will not only enlighten the audience but also define contours of the way ahead for improved security forces � mass media relations and �nation building� for India in general and North East India in particular,� Brigadier Pant said. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prof (Dr) Gyan Prakash Pandey, the Dean and Head, Department of Mass Communication for taking up the initiative towards the cause.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Alfarid Hussain said that the seminar is a welcome effort towards strengthening the bond between the security forces and the media and the deliberations shall open new vistas towards looking at the issue of nation building.

Among the eminent speakers and panelists for the seminar from the security forces include Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), Lt General SL Narasimhan PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) and Lt General (Dr) Anil Kumar Misra, AVSM (Retd).

On the other hand, eminent speakers from the mass media participating in the event will be noted journalists Subir Bhaumik, Moji Riba, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, cyber security expert Subimal Bhattacharjee and Taimur Raja Choudhury, editor of Dainik Samayik Prasanga. Researchers from the department of Mass Communication shall also present papers on the occasion.
